The Kuril Islands are a chain of islands stretching across the Pacific Ocean from Northern Japan, north of the Japanese island of Hokkaido to the Russian peninsula of Kamchatka. The majority of the islands were considered part of Japan throughout much of prerecorded history. In the 17th century Russia advanced eastward and expressed interest in the island chain. In 1855 the "Treaty of Commerce, Navigation and Delimitation / Shimoda Treaty" was signed between Japan and Russia acknowledging the four southernmost islands of the chain belonging to Japan. Subsequently in 1875 another treaty was signed between the two nations: Japan (Nihon-koku) and Russia (the once "Evil Empire" / Soviet Union). It was the "Treaty of Saint Petersburg / Karafuto-Chishima Kokan Joyaku." This treaty acknowledged Japanese dominance over the whole chain of islands from Hokkaido, Japan to Kamchatka, Russia. In return Japan acknowledged Russian dominance over the island of Sakhalin. This treaty remained until August, 1945. In the closing days of World War Two the Soviet Union (Russia, The Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics -- USSR "the Evil Empire") decided to honor comments made to their allies and entered the War in the Pacific against Japan. The commies invaded the Japanese in Manchuria. Then after the cessation of hostilities the commies occupied and stole the Kuril Islands, specifically the four large islands of the chain just north of Hokkaido, Japan. Earthquakes jolt Indonesia, Panama, Costa Rica, and Kuril Islands. Early on Thursday, August 4, a magnitude-5.8 quake shook West Sumatra and Bengkulu provinces on Sumatra Island in Indonesia as it struck 166 kilometers northwest of Bengkulu city. Meanwhile in Latin America, a temblor measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale hit the border region of Panama and Costa Rica, 36 kilometers southeast of Golfito, Costa Rica. In the early hours of Friday, a powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the Kuril Islands in Russia's Sakhalin Oblast region, centered 230 kilometers southwest of Severo-Kurilsk. Thankfully, there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties for any of these events. While we are relieved to hear of the safety of those in the quake-stricken regions, we pray that such potential instabilities are calmed through humanity's more considerate care of the Earth. PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION BEFORE COMMENTING. 9/11 was a building disaster that was deliberate. These crashes only include the plane itself, and most were accidental. Some pictures are incorrect, so there is no need to comment on that. Song: Mika - Happy ending. I DO NOT OWN THIS SONG, ALL CREDIT GOES TO MIKA. 1. March 27, 1977. Two Boeing 747s, operated by KLM and Pan Am, collide on a foggy runway at Tenerife, in Spain's Canary Islands killing 583 people. The KLM jet departed without permission and struck the Pan Am jet as it taxied along the same runway. Confusion over instructions and a blockage of radio transmissions contributed to the crash. 2. August 12, 1985. A Japan Air Lines 747 crashes near Mt. Fuji after takeoff from Tokyo on a domestic flight killing 520. The rupture of an aft bulkhead, which had undergone faulty repairs following a mishap seven years earlier, caused destruction of part of the airplane's tail and rendered the jet uncontrollable. A JAL maintenance supervisor later committed suicide, while the president of the airline resigned, accepting full, formal responsibility for the crash and visiting victims' families to offer a personal apology. 3. November 12, 1996. An Ilyushin IL-76 cargo plane from Kazakhstan collides in midair with a Saudia 747 near Delhi; all 349 aboard both planes are killed. The Kazakh crew had disobeyed instructions, and neither airplane was equipped with collision-avoidance technology. 4. March 3, 1974. In one of the most ... Длительность: 3:42
